In Sickness

A blue flame licked the already warm cast iron pot
A splatter of olive oil quickly came to temperature

The hot aroma of garlic was chased by chopped whites of leaks
Fire-colored carrots softened in the heat, and the pale potatoes followed them closely
Green beans added liveliness to the developing portrait

The toughest vegetables were now agreeing to immersion in stock
Corn kernels and tomatoes added smiles and warmth
They swam together until relaxed and calm

The blue flame was no longer needed
And the old black pot was now filled with love

A ladle delivered a healthy serving
Parsley, a little salt, a touch of lemon

Two loving hands bringing warmth for a loved one
Smiling eyes and a hug
