Out on a limb

I came into this world real simple, just wanting to be loved
Sharing smiles around with dimples, and real peaceful like a dove
A cardboard box – a spaceship now, a rooster – once a glove
What was missing from all our laughter and things we could dream of?
When the nest was pushed out on the limb, it fell from skies above
All the singing from a little bird couldn’t drown the push and shove

What would ever make one climb instead of flee the knowing tree?
A miracle of choosing good and leaving evil without me
Hop from branch to branch, and up and up, until I turned to see
That we all were born real simple and could let ourselves be free
If you were I and I were you, are the two of us just me?
No, it’s simple smiles and dimples, down to roots veiled openly
