where the children play

plunged into the Saturnal year
no thought, a quiver, within reach
arrows of time caress the archer’s fingertips
like blossoms of flaming cockscomb
strings of the universal bow, sing taut
a deep inspiration
this moment, this silent release
extending into the wilderness
now, the subterranean
where the children play, uneaten
