this morning the sun rose
a little bird said, “tweet!”
a frog blinked twice and shuffled
his tiny, wet-webbed feet
Luciana said, “good morning!”
to every tree on her street
a friend sat with a friend
their silence felt complete
distant drips from a downspout
a tinny, rhythmic beat
such inexhaustible expressions,
remind one’s value is unique
Inspiration:
One of Suzuki Roshi’s talks:
Everything must have some virtue for itself. It is very strange that no things are the same – one is different from other.
There is nothing to compare with you. You have your own value, and that value is not a comparative value or an exchange value. It is something more than that.
So when you are just on the cushion you have your own value. Because that value is related to everything, that value is also absolute value.
