Depression

A black veil, invisible, over all seen

Bit by the snake with venom paralyzing future

Decisions, no intention, no trust

Postscript

This poem describes depression not as sadness alone, but as a change in the atmosphere of perception. The world remains visible, yet something has fallen over it. Future, intention, and trust are not argued against; they are numbed. The poem stays brief because the condition it names is constricting. It does not dramatize escape. It gives form to the veil.
